<itunes:summary>FSDcme.org (Female Sexual Dysfunction) houses a comprehensive national continuing medical education curriculum that addresses the epidemiology and diagnosis of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), strategies to facilitate communication with patients about female sexual dysfunction, and increased awareness of the management options for HSDD and other female sexual dysfunctions.</itunes:summary>
<description>Female sexual dysfunction is relatively common with over 40% of women reporting difficulty with sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, or pain according to recent studies. Based on the definition derived from the American Psychiatric Association DSM-IV-TR and the American Foundation for Urologic Disease, hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) is a persistent or recurrent deficiency of sexual fantasies, thoughts and/or desire for or receptivity to sexual activity, which causes personal distress. The prevalence of HSDD in adult women in the United States is ~10% based on data from the PRESIDE (Prevalence of Female Sexual Problems Associated with Distress and Determinants of Treatment Seeking) study. Sexual dysfunction negatively impacts physical and emotional satisfaction and overall quality of life, therefore incorporation of sexual health into routine female healthcare is warranted.</description>
