TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for obstetricians/gynecologists, family physicians, internal medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care providers managing patients with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).
STATEMENT OF NEED
Despite the high frequency and personal impact of HSDD, women are hesitant to initiate discussions with their health care professionals about their sexual health or potential concerns. There are many reasons that have been suggested for this hesitancy, such as being fearful about time constraints, lack of effective treatments, and both patient and health care professional embarrassment. Additionally, surveys have discovered that health care professionals rarely initiate communication with their female patients regarding this topic. Furthermore, surveys have found that health care professionals in both primary care and specialty care of women are not well trained in this area, do not feel they are skilled on how to effectively communicate on this topic, and are not comfortable on how to diagnosis and manage sexual concerns with their female patients. This is further complicated by the limited availability of proven treatment options for HSDD.
